The above design uses a few external plugins for AfterEffects to give it more dramatic look. Using a combination of drop shadow effect along with Trapcode's radium edge glow gives one a fast way to create a 3D looking glass text. Trapcode's particular is an amazing particles system we use in pretty much every After Effects project we're working on. It's well documented, and there are a lot of tutoril in the Cloud showing amazing stuff you can do with it. One option in particular leads to quite interesting possibilities and results and it pretty much never gets used. It's a layer grid emitter. Fire up After Effects and give it a try - some interesting effects and a few hours of fun - guaranteed. Stay tuned - new tutorial and some amazing graphics are coming up.

Here is a quick tip on AfterEffects I find myself using all the time. Some times one needs to create a seamless loop animation or repeated over time effect. For instance a light sweep that goes from left to right over and over and over again for whole duration of an animation. There is a simple expression in AfterEffects called loopOut that helps to animate these things instead of placing many keyframes along the time line. Just apply loopOut("cycle") expression to a layer wich is going to be animated and AfterEffects will take care of the rest.
